It was on a windy Sunday morn
In the Peoples’ Park Dun Laoghaire
The market stalls were opening all
And the mood was bright and cheery
I sat me down by the fountain there
Where the sound of water filled the air
And I heard a couple speaking near
His hand upon her shoulder
I’m wrestling with this thing she said
Its resting heavy on my mind
I know that I must work it out
If we’re to leave this place behind
There’s everything I wanted here
There’s all my friends and family
It never was my lifelong plan
To live away across the sea
He said if I could give you what you want
I would do it just to please you
I’d make an offer on that house
And deliver up the keys to you
But no matter how we turn the sums
We just can’t seem to make them fit
And there’s a job away in Australia
With twice the pay and half the risk
Bridge:
Looking down to Dun Laoghaire strand
Where so many a dream was tossed
Across the piers and stone reminders
Of each hard decision’s cost
I know what you say to me is true
And don’t think I am blaming you
But this city is the place I love
Where I wanted to grow old with you
She stared into the wind blown spray
And they held each other tightly
And the wind whipped on her jacket hem
And the children played among the trees
It was on a windy Sunday morn
In the peoples’ park Dun Laoghaire
The market stalls were opening all
And the mood was bright and cheery
And the couple rose and brushed their clothes
She said we’d better off and go
And they walked away through the milling crowd
His hand still on her shoulder
