Sunny Ways Familiar

Words and Music by Ben Scott © 2023

The clock is singing as we’re packing to fly
My heart is wringing with the turmoil of our lives
I wrap it in paper like the plates and knives
Farewell to sunny ways familiar

And she’s leaping forward to her homeland
I’m dragged along by her eager hand
To the life we’ve lived in whispered plans
A world from sunny ways familiar

Chorus:
The pendulum springs into life sometimes
In place upon the shelf the old clock chimes
Sometimes swinging her way, others swinging mine
Recalling sunny ways familiar
Such is the measure of our loves worth
One is always far from their place of birth
You can’t move stones without bruising the earth
Or cling on to sunny ways familiar

And when we reach our bright new door
Unwrap our things on the clean wooden floor
She’s touching at the places my heart feels sore
With all her loving ways familiar

Bridge:
Walking through the green it feels like midnight
But the sly winter sun is in our eyes
As we reconnect the strings that make a life
Raise another kite to the winds of strife

The clock is singing as we’re packing to fly
My heart is wringing with the turmoil of our lives
I wrap it in paper like the plates and knives
Farewell to sunny ways familiar

From drinking indecision, our stomachs are fried
We’ve been weighing the options so long our hands are tired
But home will always be where I lay beside you
And all your sunny ways familiar

Chorus
